Alfaaz (n.): Urdu for spoken word; the distinguishing factor that makes us undeniably human. Words shape us, unite us and yet simultaneously divide us. Much like humans themselves, language constantly evolves along with us. The complexity and sense of poetry of yesteryears have become diluted to mere catchphrases and hashtags, compressed to fit 140 characters. Yet as the number of characters get smaller, the distance between us grows larger. Social media seems to ease communication, but our relationships have only become shallower. Has the goal of words been reduced to simply efficiency, but at what expense? Alfaaz attempts to explore this tumultuous relationship between words and human interaction by uncovering different hidden layers in our new age lingo.
