The much-anticipated Singapore debut of Cloud Gate 2, featuring many of Taiwan’s most talented young dancers and two award-winning choreographers.
Reputed for their potent technique and polished skill, the sister company of the internationally celebrated Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, presents three riveting dance works by innovative Taiwanese choreographers Cheng Tsung-lung and Huang Yi.
Huang Yi’s Wicked Fish is “fast-paced, exciting and fluid” (Dance Europe), with dancers effortlessly mimicking a shoal of fish in a puzzle-like choreography of twists, turns and lifts. The Wall, by the company’s artistic director, Cheng Tsung-lung, is a powerful exploration of protection and segregation, a dramatic march of contrasts that is both “sinuous and balletic” (The New York Times), with ever-changing formations of striking complexity. The final piece Beckoning, also by Cheng, is a playful and poetic work inspired by the colourful street dancing rituals of Taoist temple parades.
